Frequently Asked Questions

Finding a gym, adding one to the directory, claiming a gym you run, and listing your personal training services.

Finding a gym

Enter your location in the search box on the home page or the gym finder. A postcode gives the most accurate results, because we match on the coordinates rather than the town name. You can then widen or narrow the search radius to see more or fewer gyms.

Yes. Browse the equipment pages to see which gyms have a particular piece of kit — useful if you need something specific like a monolift, a safety squat bar or strongman equipment that not every gym stocks.

Where the information has been supplied, a listing shows the address and location, opening hours, telephone number, website and social links, the equipment and facilities available, and whether the gym offers day passes, runs classes, is open to the general public, or requires an induction before you can train.

Every gym submitted by the public is reviewed by hand before it appears on the site. Gyms can also be claimed by their owner or a member of staff, who can then keep the details accurate. Even so, opening hours and facilities change — if something looks out of date, please let us know.

Please do. Anyone can add a gym — you do not need an account and it does not cost anything. You do not have to be connected to the gym; plenty of listings come from people who simply train there.

Yes, The Gym Directory covers gyms in the United Kingdom. Search works best with a UK postcode.

Listing your gym

Use the add a gym form. It takes a few minutes and walks you through the gym's details, its equipment and facilities, and how to contact you if we have questions.

No. Adding a gym to the directory is free, and there is no charge to keep it listed.

No — you can submit a gym without signing up. If you own the gym or work there it is worth creating an account first, because you can then claim the listing afterwards and manage it yourself.

The gym's name and its full address — street, town or city, county or region, and postcode. Everything else is optional, but the more you fill in the more useful the listing is. Opening hours, equipment and facilities are the details people search on most.

It goes into a queue for review. We check the gym exists and that the details look right, then either publish it or come back to you. We email you either way, so keep an eye on the address you gave us.

Submissions are reviewed by hand, so it depends on how many are waiting. If yours seems to have been forgotten, get in touch and quote the gym name and the email address you submitted with.

The usual reasons are that we could not confirm the gym exists at the address given, the listing duplicated one already on the site, or the details were too sparse to be useful. Our email will say which. You are welcome to submit again with more detail.

No. The email address you give for a gym is kept for our records so we can get in touch about the listing — it is not shown on the public profile. The telephone number and website are published, as those are how most people expect to reach a gym.

Yes, if you own the gym or work there. Claim the listing and you can keep it up to date yourself. Otherwise send us the correction and we will apply it.

Claiming your gym

Claiming tells us you own the gym or work there, so we can let you keep its listing accurate — opening hours, facilities, equipment and contact details.

Find the gym in the directory, open its page and use the claim link. You will need to be logged in, and you will be asked for evidence that you are connected to the gym.

Anything that lets us verify the connection. A company registration number, an email address at the gym's own domain, or a page on the gym's website that names you all work well. We review every claim by hand and may contact you if we need more.

Three by default. If you manage more than that — a chain or a group of sites — contact us and we will raise the limit on your account.

Claims are reviewed by hand, so it depends on the queue. You will get an email once yours has been looked at. While it is waiting you will see a note on the gym's claim page confirming we have it.

Get in touch and tell us which gym it is and how you are connected to it. Ownership of a listing can be revoked and reassigned where the evidence supports it.

Personal trainers

Use the list your PT services form. It covers your background, the services you offer, your qualifications and how clients can reach you.

No. Listing your personal training services is free.

No. There is an option to show only your area rather than your full address, and it is on by default. Your town and the first part of your postcode are shown, which is enough for clients to find you locally without publishing where you live. Distance search still works either way.

No, pricing is optional. You can give a range, a single rate, or leave it blank and discuss rates with clients directly.

Yes. You can mark yourself as offering remote or online coaching, and turn off in-person sessions if you do not train clients face to face.

It goes into the same review queue as gym submissions. We check the details, then publish your profile or come back to you. We email you either way.

Yes. Your profile carries your experience, your rates and how clients reach you, so we ask you to create an account before listing. It keeps the profile tied to you rather than to whoever filled in the form, and it means we can always get hold of you about it. Adding a gym is different — a gym is a business, so anyone can add one without signing up.

Your account

No. Searching the directory and viewing gym and trainer profiles needs no account. You only need one to save favourites, claim a gym, or keep track of gyms you have visited.

Log in and use the heart on any gym card or profile. Your saved gyms are listed under My Gyms in your account area.

Use the contact form. If it is about a specific gym or listing, including the gym name and its web address helps us find it quickly.
